Zacher attended the Jesuit College in Vienna from 1666 to 1668 and worked as a musician at St. Michael’s from 1663 to 1668. From 1679 until his death he worked as a Kapellmeister at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In 1698, he was awarded the title of Imperial Court Musician. In 1705, Zacher took over the direction of the chapel of the Dowager Empress Eleonore Magdalena.
