Hirschberger entered the Cistercian abbey of Raitenhaslach in Upper Bavaria in 1727 (professed in 1728, ordained a priest in 1734). His studies took him to the Benedictine monasteries of Rott am Inn and Prüfening in 1731. Afterwards, he worked, among other things, as music director in Raitenhaslach.
